Back so soon, Wednesday?

It's almost the weekend (already)! Unlike the majority of the world, my weeks actually go by pretty fast. I can't tell you the last time I uttered the phrase, "Ugh, it's only TUESDAY! The weekend will NEVER get here!" and proceed to stomp my feet and flail my arms like a three year old.

I'll pause for a moment for you to stop rolling your eyes...

The reason my weeks go by fast is that I only spend around 27-30 hours a week being productive. I go to my internship Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 6 hours or so and only have class Monday and Tuesday night. So ALL day Tuesday and Friday I do nothing. I know that after graduation (
December 11th, mark your calendar) I will have to re-join the real world and work 40+ hours a week but for right now I am taking advantage of being a student and feel no remorse. Well, after reading Katie's post about her daily routine that begins at 4:45am I felt a tad guilty and bum-ish. Ehhhhh, it passed.

Weekend Recap:
Todd and I went to The Avett Brothers concert at The BR River Center. It was AHHHH-MAZING. I've been to some really fun concerts before (The Killers, Reba/Kelly), but this one was simply awesome. Todd has been a fan for a while and made me a mixed CD a few weeks ago so I would know a handful of songs at the concert. Well, I didn't know but roughly 30% of the songs they played but they were THAT good that it didn't matter if I could sing along or not. It was a small crowd and we sat on the fourth row and were extremely close to the stage. The energy was incredible and when they would slow the tempo you could hear a pin drop. Dead silence. Completely hypnotic. They opened with my favorite song on the mixed CD,
The Weight of Lies, so from the very beginning I was happy. Not to mention the double jack and cokes we were drinking.

I will post a few youtube videos, some are from the BR concert that we were at, and try to spread the word about the talented Avett Brothers. They are just bluegrass-banjo-playing-indie-under-the-radar-cool.

While watching them on youtube, I noticed a familiar shaped head:

It's TODD! I started laughing uncontrollably when I saw this! Poor thing, he hates standing in front of people because he is 6'4 and feels like he is blocking other people's view and here he is on the fourth row. He had a blast and would have stood on the 1st row if given the choice. People behind him can just move it.

Now, here are those videos I have been blabbing about. Of course I don't expect anyone to watch ALL of them. I just wanted to post a few of them for those that are interested in hearing good music.

This is the one they performed on Letterman last week:

One of Todd's favorites:

I heard this one for the first time at the concert. I spent the entire song trying to hold back tears and then spent the next song wiping them away. Apparently this song hit close to home.

I think this song really captures how talented they are. Oh the harmony.

This is the same song as the last video, just close up and raw. Same singer, different hair.

They rocked my heart and soul.

Fangs? Yes please, right here in my aorta.

I want to be a vampire and live forever with the Cullen's and eat lunch with them everyday in the school cafeteria. That is all I have to say for now.

Sweet, Stale Memories

We look like closet alcoholics.

Todd looks like a preacher.

We look like losers. We would never break the rules.

This picture makes me want to smack on a piece of gum.

Me hanging out with a few girls from the squad.

Chess Club

I tried out for quarterback but was too short to make the team.

Todd was VERY competitive.

Coed Cheer Team.

This was Halloween one year. I was never in the marching band.

I've seen people on facebook put these pictures up and I never bothered with it until today. When I began uploading, I became obsessed! Todd wasn't too impressed though!

WWLHD?

Hello peeps,

Summer school is OVER. This means that I am one semester away from finishing grad school! It has not really set in as of yet but once it does, I won't be able to contain myself.

I thought the past 8 weeks were going to be terrible but it went by really fast! With summer school AND my internship going on, plus weekend activities, I haven't had the chance to notice that it is almost August. Where did June and July go? Actually, where did May go? Let's back track shall we?

A few May events: end of Spring semester, beach trip, Erin's wedding, Anisa's wedding, Elephant Stomp, an engagement party, and Em and Pat's Wedding!

Emily was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The entire weekend was perfect!

Me and Todd at Em's wedding. I loved our bridesmaid dresses!

Me and Anisa at her and Dale's wedding! It was supposed to be a housewarming party but they surprised us with a reception. Sneaky Sneaky.

Todd and I at an engagement party in Jackson, MS

Let me think about June...

Oh yes, summer school started as well as my internship. I have to complete a certain number of clinical hours in order to graduate and my site is at Our Lade of the Lake Hospital here in Baton Rouge. I am working as a Counselor Intern on the Acute Psych/Geriatric Psych unit. I will have to post stories about a few patients at a later date! Let's just say they include baby leprechauns and a talking vagina. Excited, right?

I also discovered my love for karaoke and Twilight during the month of June. If only Katie would impose my face next to Edward Cullen's by using her fancy photoshop techniques...

July was pretty mellow. We spent the 4th of July in Jackson and it was very relaxing and low key, just the way I wanted it. The following weekend was the complete opposite of low key. Me, Elizabeth, and Ann went to New Orleans and danced until 4am. Elizabeth is moving to NC next week so we all wanted to spend time together before she left. Mission accomplished!

Me and Jordan dropping beats at Thai Kitchen.

Sweaty in New Orleans.

Like I mentioned above, Elizabeth is moving to NC and I am going to miss her terribly. Especially with football season coming up! Here are a few memories of the past year.

See you soon best friend!

What would Lloyd and Harry do?!?

Rocks in a Crockpot

All I want to say is that hot stone massages are incredible. Todd gave me a gift certificate to a local spa here, Bumble Lane, for my birthday. I am pretty sure he picked up on all of my complaints about my back hurting and needing a massage so he gave me the best remedy. So I made my appointment for this morning with a man named Chris. I was kind of unsure about having a man rub me down but then I reflected on my last massage with a woman. Wait, what am I doing here? I can't tell you the story of today's massage without backtracking to September 2007 when I got my first ever professional massage. It was with a woman who looked identical to Tonya Harding...the boxer, not figure skater.

There we were in Hot Springs, AR for my friend Emily's bachelorette party. We stayed in a spa/hotel that offered massages so we signed up. Why not, right? Well the first two to go were me and Liz. We were in our robes, sipping on ice water, when a man walks in and says, "Elizabeth?" We both pointed at one another with the look on our face that yelled, "I am NOT going in there with him". Since Liz was closest, he touched her shoulder and away they went. I was full of glee for about ten seconds when in walks my Tonya Harding look alike. Liz got the better man. Fast forward to ten minutes into the massage, she/he decides to do some maneuver where she used her elbows to go up and down my back. The problem was that every time she would get near my face, her elbows would fall off my shoulders and hit my chin. Not comfortable. Apparently she thought she could master this skill because she didn't stop until about 8 blows later. Oh Tonya. Anyway, after our massages Liz and I were put side by side in these bathtubs that were separated by shower curtains. Every time someone would walk past, the air would blow those things right open! Me, being extremely modest, sunk down so low in that water that all you could see were my eyes and nose (for breathing, of course). The bubbles were so powerful that I had to put my feet in these stirrups that only should be allowed at my OB/GYN's office so my legs would stop bouncing everywhere. Finally, I started dry heaving because I got so hot. I didn't last the whole 20 minutes in there. I peeked my head outside the curtain and at the same time I saw Liz's head do the same! She was super hot, too.

My Hot Springs masseuse

Oh and to top off that wonderful spa experience, we got into a car wreck on the way home the next day and spent 5 hours at the Malvern, AR police station looking at "Camo Babes 2007" calendars. Sweet.

Needless to say, I was nervous about today's spa experience. I was greeted by Darla and given a tour of the facility. She explained to me what I needed to do and that Chris would be right with me. Well, as I was undressing I began to panic about not knowing if I should take off ALL of my clothes. Is that normal to get completely naked? Do all people do that? So I had to ask Darla. I am pretty sure she laughed at me. Once that situation was taken care of, I patiently waited for Chris who arrived right on time and led me to a room that smelled like Heaven. The lights were low and in the corner I saw my stones placed gently in what resembled a crockpot. Ahh. Excitement. He worked on my neck, chest, and arms first and I was so confused because one minute his hands were lotion-y and the next they were hot! Remember that Biore Instant Heating Mask that became hot when mixed with water? That is what it felt like! How was he doing this? Did he magic fingers? I was confused. Then I realized that I was dumb and he was touching me with the hot stones, not his fingers. Mystery solved.

He later began working on my legs. Half-way through my right one it dawned on my that I didn't shave them this morning. Gross. I didn't have time! They weren't that bad anyway and I am pretty sure he has seen worse. Flip to my back. When he started working on my lower back, I knew he was an angel. I haven't felt that kind of relief in months! I was so relaxed and peaceful when another alarm went off in my head, "TRAMP STAMP!". UGHHHHH. I should have never gotten that tattoo when I was 18 because it does nothing but embarrass me. I know he could tell that I tensed up because he went to town with his knuckles. The embarrassment finally passed when I started to think about Phoebe Buffet.

All in all, it was WONDERFUL. Granted I did come to terms that I have ADHD and relaxing is somewhat difficult, but I want to go back every month for the rest of my life but I can't. I am tempted to gather stones from my apartment complex and heat them in boiling water and try to imitate what he did. My luck I would pull a muscle and get third degree burns.

Watch out Paula Dean

I loooooove Paula Dean's food so much that I am able to tolerate her horrible accent and vocabulary. Her looks remind me of Brenda Self. Sarah Beth, I know you agree.
Anyway, my other favorite cook is Elizabeth Romero. She is incredibly talented! I like to follow recipes down to the exact measurement because I am afraid of the food being terrible. Most of the time the food turns out to be bad even after I have followed the recipe, but at least I can blame it on the original cook and not me, right? So Elizabeth is the type of cook who just knows what will taste good together. She can throw stuff together and it tastes delicious. THAT is a good cook.

I attempted to make her chicken fajitas last night for Todd.
He has been studying super hard for finals and spends the majority of his day in the library doing something with what he calls outlines.  (I have no clue what outlines are but apparently it's what you need to do good in school). I have taken it upon myself to cook more these past few weeks so he can get an actual meal and not two hot pockets and a handful of oreos. I'm not saying that is a bad meal, it's just nice to use forks every now and then. I asked Elizabeth what I needed and where to start. She sent me a vague recipe that made perfect sense to her but I was forced to ask her, "how do I marinate chicken?" She laughed and replied, "I'll send you a detailed recipe".  They turned out wonderful and Todd seemed to enjoy them, too. Success.

Back to the actual point of this entry, Elizabeth has created a blog! She is going to post her recipes and I highly recommend you try them! If my food tastes good after following her recipes, than anyone's will!

Her blog is: romero84.blogspot.com

Have a good weekend!
